MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — The FBI is partnering with local law enforcement to investigate a series of drone sightings in New Jersey over the past two weeks, noting that the devices are being deployed by unknown sources.

Countless calls have come into authorities in towns like Randolph, Parsippany and Morristown, to name a few.

“The FBI Newark, NJ State Police and NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness are asking for the public to report any information related to the recent sightings of possible drones flying in several areas along the Raritan River,” FBI Newark said in a statement.

According to the FBI, witnesses have spotted the cluster “of what look to be drones and a possible wing aircraft.” Reports from the public and law enforcement date back several weeks, the agency said.

Matthew, the owner of Gourmet Café in Parsippany, told 1010 WINS that he has spotted the drones on his Ring camera.

“I’ve seen many, many notifications on the ring camera saying there’s drones circling around,” he said.

The Morris County Sheriff James Gannon released a statement confirming that the drones are being actively investigated.

“There is no advisable immediate danger to the public at this time, and the Sheriff’s Office, along with many law enforcement agencies are working in partnership on this matter,” Gannon said. “We often receive information from our neighbors that may be helpful because of their own individual talents. If you are a photographer, please send us your higher resolution captures of the questionable flights.”

While law enforcement does not believe that the drones pose immediate danger to the public, New Jersey residents are perplexed by their sudden appearance.

“But why would they be flying over Parsippany? Especially over the pizzeria here,” Brian said.

The Federal Aviation Administration imposed flight restrictions while investigations continue. The drones are bigger than those typically used by hobbyists, and their proximity to President-elect Donald Trump’s golf course in Bedminster and Picatinny Arsenal, a military installation, have caused concern.
