HELMETTA, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A manhunt is underway in New Jersey as law enforcement hunt for a man wanted for his alleged involvement in the Jan. 6, attack on the U.S. Capitol, police said.

The FBI Newark SWAT team, Jamesburg Police Department, and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office are working together to find Gregory Yetman.

Authorities have been scouring a wooded area in Helmetta after Yetman was seen fleeing on foot.

The FBI has issued a public statement for information regarding his whereabouts and urges anyone with knowledge to contact them at (973) 792-3000.

Gregory Yetman is described as a white male in his 40s, last seen wearing a red jacket and a ball cap.

The FBI has not disclosed the specific charges Yetman is facing, nor the duration of their search prior to the manhunt.

During the Capitol riot, videographers filmed a man picking up and using a pepper spray canister on both protesters and police officers. The man was later identified by USA TODAY investigations as Gregory Yetman.

Yetman, who served as a military police sergeant in the New Jersey National Guard until his discharge in March 2022, was linked to the Capitol riot by videos and social media.

In an interview with USA TODAY, Yetman claimed he committed no wrongdoing at the Capitol and denied using pepper spray on anyone.

The search is ongoing.
