The fire broke out at the Ridgecrest Apartments around 7:30 p.m. and was extinguished less than a half hour later, according to the Ridgewood Police Department.

The unidentified victim was found in the room the fire started in.

No one else was hurt in the blaze.

About 45 residents were evacuated, but the fire didn’t spread far and they were able to return later that night.

Village officials have not yet announced the cause of the fire, but the local police department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating.
