NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) –A former Long Island high school teacher was sentenced to probation Monday following his guilty plea for sexually abusing a teen student in 2013.

Timothy Harrison, 48, a former Babylon High School teacher engaged in inappropriate behavior with a 15-year-old girl between September and November 2013, sending flirtatious text messages, providing alcohol, and having sex with the minor at his Oak Beach residence, prosecutors said.

"This defendant violated his trust as an educator and sexually abused a child whom he was entrusted to care for," Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said.

The survivor came forward in 2021 and reported the abuse to Babylon High School staff and then to the Suffolk County Police Department's Special Victim Section.

Harrison was arrested on March 3, 2022. He pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child on Sept. 15.

He was sentenced to three years' probation with sex offender conditions following his guilty plea.

These conditions include housing restrictions, computer and electronic monitoring, and no contact with the survivor.

Additionally, Harrison was mandated to surrender his teaching license as part of the plea deal.
