Former NJ officer killed, another injured in motorcycle crash on Garden State Parkway

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A former New Jersey officer was killed and another man seriously injured in a crash involving a motorcycle and a dirt bike on the Garden State Parkway on Sunday afternoon, officials said.

At about 1 p.m. Antonio Caprara, 26, was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle south on the right shoulder of the Parkway in Toms River and Lenny Ritorto, 49, was riding an SSR dirt bike in the acceleration lane from the Exit 81 entrance ramp when they collided, according to State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron.

Both riders were thrown, authorities said.

Caprara was pronounced dead at the scene and Ritorto suffered serious injuries. He was transported to an area hospital.

The crash currently remains under investigation.

According to reports, Caprara was a former South Toms River police officer. He graduated the Ocean County Police academy in 2022.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Caprara's family.
