NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Lauren Brzozowski has her eye on the 2026 Olympics bobsled team.
In an interview with 1010 WINS, the Wyckoff, New Jersey native says bobsledding wasn’t always the plan. Before the pandemic, Brzozowski was chasing her dream of becoming a track athlete. But when the world shut down and she had more time on her hands, Brzozowski said she finally had some space to try new things.
“I was like if I ever find myself in a position to be able to not do track and give bobsledding a go, I will do it,” Brzozowski said. “And ever since I made that decision, it's been a really cool journey. Emphasis on the cool of course, because it's really cold.”
Inspired by other track athletes who were able to utilize their speed and strength in the winter sport, Brzozowski said she’s been able to find success with bobsledding because of her prior training in track. Her physical ability is especially helpful because of her strenuous role as Team USA development pilot where she is responsible for steering and driving the large sleigh.
Some of Brzozowski's teammates are anticipating they will be named to the U.S. Olympic bobsled team for this year’s Winter Olympics in Beijing, which Brzozowski is excited about. And though she won’t be participating in this year’s games, Brzozowski said she’s hopeful she’ll be picked for the 2026 team when the Olympics head to Milan, Italy.
In the meantime, Brzozowski is training in Lake Placid and working to fund the expensive sport. Bobsledding is not only very dangerous but comes with a hefty price tag, Brzozowski said. In order to help cover the costs associated with it, she fundraises with the help and support of her community. Her next major expense is funding her trip to Austria in the coming weeks where she will be competing in her first bobsled race in Europe.
