NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Police located the 63-year-old woman after receiving a tip about her sighting on a resident's Ring doorbell on Monday after she was reported missing while hiking in a New Jersey park on Sunday.
The Ringwood Police Department, in collaboration with the New Jersey State Park Police, posted a photo of the missing woman, Carol Heimbach of Wayne, on its Facebook page and confirmed that she was reported missing early Sunday afternoon from Ringwood State Park in Passaic County.
Heimbach went for a hike in Ringwood State Park, parked near Skylands Manor around noon, and got lost overnight, according to police.
When she didn't return home for dinner, her family called the police to report her missing at around 10 p.m.
During a press conference on Monday, New Jersey State Park Police Chief George Fedorczyk stated that the search involved dogs and a helicopter, with multiple search teams scouring the area overnight.
Police received a tip Monday afternoon from a Sloatsburg resident whose Ring doorbell recorded the missing hiker.
Heinbach was found, five miles away over the state line in Sloatsburg.
“She was met with medical personnel," Fedorczyk said. "She was safe, no apparent injuries but was definitely very much disoriented."
Police said Heimbach was evaluated by medical personnel and had no apparent injuries.
The park was closed in this area while the search continued on Monday.
At around 2 p.m., police notified the public that "the missing person had been located and was safe."
