It's one of the largest spring events in New Orleans, and today, French Quarter Festival announced the coronavirus pandemic has led to them postponing the event.
"French Quarter Festivals, Inc.’s top priority is the health and safety of our fans, artists, staff, volunteers, sponsors, and community," the festival announced today. "Following the recommendation of public health officials and with the support of the City of New Orleans, French Quarter Festival 2020 has been rescheduled to October 1- 4 due to COVID-19 concerns."
The fest says it is in talks with artists, vendors, sponsors, and staff on taking the next steps. The fest was to have taken place April 16 - 19.
French Quarter Fest is in a different position than a lot of other festivals in that it's free, so the issue of ticket refunds doesn't apply to it. It does recommend that fans who booked travel and hotel arrangements call their airline and hotel immediately for any changes.
