LINDENHURST, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – A man impersonated a police officer to abduct two girls on Long Island on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The two girls, ages 14 and 16, were walking on Herbert Avenue in Lindenhurst around 3:35 p.m. when a white SUV approached them, according to Suffolk County Police.
A man in the SUV identified himself as a police officer and asked the girls what they were doing, police said. The girls said they were walking to the library.
The man then told the girls to get in the SUV, saying he would drive them to the library, according to police.
Once they were at the library's parking lot, the man told the older girl to get out of the vehicle so he could talk to the younger girl, police said.
The man then drove off with the 14-year-old girl to a nearby park, where he parked the vehicle and began to touch the girl, according to police.
The girl was able to fight the man off and flee the vehicle, police said. She ran to a nearby home for help and the homeowner called 911.
Police said Thursday that they had arrested a man in connection with the abduction.
