MONTCLAIR, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Police have made an arrest three weeks after a 17-year-old girl was attacked, tied up and robbed during a home invasion in New Jersey.
NJ Transit Police arrested Anthony Harper, 30, at Newark Penn Station on Monday after recognizing him in statewide alerts following the violent home invasion in Montclair last month, police said.
The teen was home alone at her apartment on Hillside Avenue on the afternoon of Oct. 19 when a man entered through an unlocked window and demanded money, according to police.
When the girl said she didn’t have any money, the man “violently assaulted her to the point of unconsciousness before tying her up with bedsheets and placing her in a closet,” police said.
The suspect took off with electronics and jewelry after the attack, according to police.
The teen eventually managed to free herself and escaped the apartment through a bathroom window before running to a neighbor’s apartment for help, police said.
She was treated at an area hospital for facial injuries and later released.
Police said the stolen items were later recovered.
Harper faces a long list of charges, including criminal attempt-murder, kidnapping, robbery, burglary, endangering an injured victim, aggravated assault, criminal restraint, theft of movable property and third-degree terroristic threats.
He was in custody Tuesday awaiting transport to the Essex County Correctional Facility, police said.
