BAYONNE, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Authorities are investigating after a 6-year-old girl was killed in a house fire in New Jersey late Sunday, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.
The fire happened on Avenue C and 18th Street in Bayonne behind a playground at about 11:40 p.m.
Emergency responders found heavy fire and smoke throughout the two-story building where they located an unresponsive juvenile – later identified as Saniya Felton, 6, of Bayonne – on the second floor of the building.
Felton was transported to Bayonne Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday.
No foul play is suspected and the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Bayonne Fire Department are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
