Girl, 7, found wandering on Long Island road after parents pass out drunk in SUV

MEDFORD, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A mother and father were arrested Sunday after they allegedly passed out drunk in an SUV and their 7-year-old daughter was found wandering off the Long Island Expressway.

Police responded to multiple 911 calls around 10:45 a.m. Sunday about a girl walking on Express Drive North, between exits 64 and 65 of the LIE in Medford.

Suffolk police officers located the girl unharmed along the side of the road. She was taken to an area hospital for an evaluation.

Her parents were found intoxicated and unconscious inside a running Nissan Pathfinder on the same road, police said.

Her 37-year-old father, of Bellport, was charged with aggravated DWI with a child passenger, DWI, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Her 35-year-old mother, of Central Islip, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Their identities have been withheld to protect the girl's privacy.
