Officials said Harris was in close contact with a staff member throughout the day on Tuesday, and that staffer received a positive test result on Wednesday.

According to officials, the unidentified individual is fully vaccinated, has received a booster shot and is not experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19.

“Earlier today, after being notified of the staffer’s positive test, the Vice President received a PCR test and tested negative,” the White House said in a statement. “She will be tested again on Friday then again on Monday per CDC guidance.”

The White House added that Harris is tested for the virus on a regular basis.

As guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not require fully vaccinated people to quarantine after exposure, Harris will continue with her daily schedule.

Harris is scheduled to depart from Joint Base Andrews Wednesday evening for Los Angeles, where she and Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff will remain through the New Year.

The news of Harris’ negative test came just hours after the White House also revealed President Joe Biden has tested negative multiple times since he was exposed to the virus in a separate instance.

Officials said Biden had close contact on Air Force One last Friday with a staff member who later tested positive for the virus. However, multiple tests have confirmed the president was not infected.

Biden has received three doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine while Harris has received three doses of Moderna.
