STORRS, Conn. (1010 WINS) — The University of Connecticut said Friday that the hazmat situation which forced the evacuation of a section on its Storrs, Connecticut campus is now "stabilized" and under control.

University officials said public safety personnel are operating at the scene and continued to stress avoiding the area until further notice.
The university shared an alert shortly after 4 p.m., telling anyone to avoid or evacuate the Gant west, north, and south buildings.
