Hit-and-run driver sought for fatally striking woman as she crossed a Long Island highway

BOHEMIA, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Suffolk County Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a woman early Wednesday morning as she crossed a Long Island highway.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was crossing Veterans Memorial Highway at 5th Avenue in Bohemia at the time of the crash.

She was hit by a vehicle traveling westbound at about 5:15 a.m.

Authorities pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

The vehicle fled the scene and police are hunting for the driver. There have been no arrests and an investigation is ongoing.
