NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A knife-wielding man was tased by police on Long Island Thursday after threatening officers and refusing to drop the knife, Nassau County Police said.

Officers responding to a home on Scott Road in Wantagh around 4 p.m. for reports of an intoxicated man in need of medical assistance encountered Michael Battah, 69, who "made threats to harm the officers," according to police.

Officers made contact with Battah, who was still inside the home, and persuaded him to come outside, police said.

Battah was "combative" as he exited the home with a knife in his hand, according to police, who said he ignored verbal commands to drop the weapon as he approached officers.

Police ultimately tased Battah to subdue him and were able to take away the knife, police said.

When officers tried to take Battah into custody, he "refused to comply with their commands and actively resisted" but was ultimately arrested after a brief struggle, police said.

He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and charged with three counts of menacing a police officer, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.
