NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Long Island cat was reunited with her owners ten years after she went missing, town officials said last week.
A good Samaritan brought a stray cat into the Brookhaven Town Animal Shelter and Adoption Center on Dec. 5 after feeding her for the past three months.
An examination of the cat, named Mimi, revealed that she was microchipped and belonged to a family in East Setauket.
Mimi’s owner said she was lost a decade ago and they looked everywhere for her but she could not be found. The owners have since moved to Spain with their three other cats and will arrange to fly Mimi to be with them.
If Mimi’s story inspires you, the shelter is having a “Home for the Holidays” promotion this month. Pet adoptions through the end of December are free and include free spay or neuter, vaccinations, microchip and heartworm and flea tests.
