ISLIP, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – A husband and wife were found shot to death Thursday at their Long Island home, and Suffolk County police are investigating the case as an apparent murder-suicide.

Police responded to a 911 call around 6:30 a.m. Thursday about a man shot outside 4 Parsons Landing in Islip.

The call was reportedly made by garbage collectors who saw him lying on the driveway.

Responding officers found William Clifford, 73, fatally shot outside the house and his wife, Eileen Clifford, 68, fatally shot inside.

Detectives are still investigating but believe the husband shot his wife before killing himself.

Friends of the couple expressed shock to Newsday, with one remembering them as “amazing, sweet people.”

A neighbor told the outlet that he’d “never seen anything like this before.”

“This is the suburbs,” he said, “so people don't really communicate too much. So all kinds of crazy things could be going on that you don't know about.”
