NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A Long Island man was arrested on Sunday for the murder of his girlfriend at a motor inn in May, Suffolk County Police said.

The investigation began around 2:30 a.m. on May 29, when police responding to a potential overdose at the Shore Motor Inn on the Sunrise Service Road in Patchogue found Candice Woodruff, 37, in critical condition.

The autopsy, conducted by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, revealed that the cause of Woodruff's death was blunt force trauma.

Homicide Squad detectives launched an investigation that led to the identification of the suspect - Woodruff's boyfriend, Willie Hart.

Hart, a 59-year-old Yaphank resident, turned himself in on Oct. 15. He was charged with second-degree murder.

Hart is scheduled for arraignment at the Suffolk County Court in Riverhead on Oct. 16.
