NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A Long Island man was arrested on Tuesday for abandoning his 2-year-old pit bull terrier and leaving her sickly thin, Suffolk County officials said.

Stephan Clemente, 44, from Lake Ronkonkoma neglected and later left Shadow, the pit bull, outside the Brookhaven Town Animal Shelter on Sept. 8, Suffolk County SPCA stated in a press release.

Shadow was found in extremely poor health condition, malnourished with ribs and bones visible.

Clemente will appear in court on Oct. 16.

"Animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County," Roy Gross, Chief of the Suffolk County SPCA, said.
