HICKSVILLE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A 19-year-old Long Island man was arrested after he allegedly stole a Mercedes-Benz from a local auto repair shop, assaulted a witness and threatened a police officer in a crime spree that kicked off Friday night, Nassau County Police said.

Brayan Galiono Hernandez started racking up charges when he allegedly knocked down an exterior security fence at Precision Auto Care in Hicksville at about 7 p.m. on Friday night and entered through an unlocked garage door.

Police said that he then removed a red 1995 Mercedes-Benz and fled the scene, but soon crashed the luxury car multiple times.

Hernandez was approached by a 35-year-old man near First Street and Frevert Place who witnessed his erratic driving, and is accused of striking the challenger multiple times in the head with a bottle, causing a large laceration.

The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Following the assault, police said that the suspect fled the scene on foot and entered a fenced-in, under-construction residence on Fifth Avenue. The construction site foreman informed police that Hernandez was hiding inside and not a worker.

Hernandez approached responding officers as he exited the residence carrying a 4-foot level and swung it at them. This prompted one of the officers to deploy his electric weapon and place Hernandez under arrest, police said.

He was taken to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation where officials deemed him intoxicated, officials said.

The Hicksville man is charged with four counts of burglary, two counts of criminal mischief, grand larceny, criminal possession of a weapon and stolen property, three counts of assault, menacing a police officer, resisting arrest and DWI, among other charges, police said.

After he was evaluated and medically cleared, Hernandez was arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead where he was ordered held on a $75,000 cash bail, according to court records.

He is expected to return to court on Friday.
