BRENTWOOD, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A Long Island woman was arrested on Tuesday morning for assaulting a teen girl who had gotten into an argument with her daughter, police said.
A 14-year-old girl was exiting Brentwood High School at about 11 a.m. when she and a 15-year-old girl began exchanging words.
Toni Monroe, the mother of the older teen, then struck the 14-year-old several times with a metal water bottle, authorities said.
Police said that a security guard broke up the altercation, and Monroe was arrested in the parking lot a short time later.
The teen was taken to an area hospital to treat non-life-threatening injuries, officials said. Her identity is being withheld.
Monroe, 35, is charged with second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Her arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday in Central Islip.
