The 28-year-old woman, Rachel Meyer, was driving a Subaru Forester on the Long Island Expressway when she crashed around 3:05 p.m. near exit 53, authorities said.

Responding officers found Meyer unconscious with the baby strapped in the back seat. Police later found Meyer had taken drugs.

Both Meyer and her daughter were taken to South Shore University Hospital for treatment and were later released.

Meyer was eventually arrested under Leandra’s Law which charged her with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger under 15 years old, an automatic felony. She was also charged with child endangerment.

The 4-month-old was released to the care of a family member.

Meyer was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
