NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A Long Island woman was charged with animal cruelty after a dog was found with an open, untreated wound, the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals announced on Monday.
An investigation found three-year-old male Shih Tzu poodle mix, Richard, to be "severely matted, covered with fleas, with patches of missing fur, and an open untreated wound," detectives said.
Carolyn Robinson, 59, from Amityville was arrested and charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty on Oct. 23.
The dog was taken from the home and immediately taken to a veterinarian for treatment. Richard has since been adopted into a family.
Robinson is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 12.
