BRENTWOOD, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A Long Island woman is facing animal cruelty and drug charges after officials searched her home last week, the Suffolk County SPCA announced Sunday.

Stacy Zimmer, 48, is charged with multiple misdemeanor animal cruelty charges, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after detectives executed a search warrant at her home on the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 19.

SPCA detectives executed the warrant at Zimmer’s Brentwood home and discovered two pit bull type dogs living in unsanitary and unsafe conditions, officials said.

The air inside the home was noxious and had an odor of feces, urine and rot so pungent that personnel coughed and gagged upon entry and experienced stinging in their eyes, the SPCA said. The overwhelming odor of ammonia and foul smells made investigators continue to cough and gag through execution of the warrant.

The animals confined to the home were found in filthy areas of garbage and feces. Hundreds of dead flies, buckets of urine and trash were found strewn about the inside of the home.

Detectives also recovered crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia from the premises, authorities said.

The Town of Smithtown Code Enforcement placarded the residence as unfit for human occupancy. The animals were removed and are available for adoption at the Islip Animal Shelter.

Zimmer was booked at the Suffolk County Police Department 3rd Precinct on Wednesday and released. She is scheduled to appear in court on March 7.
