NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — One person is dead and two others are in critical condition after a driver fell asleep at the wheel and caused a crash on the Cross Island Parkway, the New York Post reported.
The incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. Saturday when a woman driving a Mazda traveling north on the Cross Island Parkway "fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree" at Hempstead Avenue, according to an NYPD spokesperson.
Officials said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene while two passengers were taken to North Shore University Hospital in critical condition.
The investigation remains ongoing.
