1 dead, 3 hospitalized in Bronx residential building fire

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – One person was killed and three more sent to the hospital in a Bronx building fire on Saturday evening, authorities said.

Fire officials responded to a 8:17 p.m. call on Saturday reporting a fire at 1210 Elder Avenue in the Soundview section of the Bronx.

The blaze escalated to a 2-alarm fire at 8:32 p.m., and firefighters got it under control an hour after the first call came in, the FDNY said.

The fire began on the second floor of a five-story residence, and six people were injured, the FDNY said.

According to the FDNY, one victim was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in critical condition.

At 7 a.m. on Sunday, police said that the woman succumbed to her injuries.

The FDNY said that five people were also transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Police confirmed Sunday morning that there are three people in stable condition at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi.

Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
