NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A firefighter responding to a large asphalt spill in the Bronx on Wednesday was injured, authorities said.
Officials received a call just after noon for a reported spill of 100 gallons of liquid asphalt at Truxton Street near Randall Avenue and East 156th Street in Hunts Point.
The chemical spill began to flow into the sewer, according to FDNY officials.
The Department of Environmental Protection personnel were on the scene for clean up and to address any remaining hazards.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi.
"DEP is on the scene. Crews have covered catch basins and sewers as best they can and are investigating any impacts to DEP infrastructure. The tanker truck's owner has also been ordered to send a remediation team to clean up the spilled tar," a spokesperson said.
