NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Eleven kids and one adult were injured Wednesday evening when a child’s shoelace sparked an escalator malfunction at the Broadway theater that’s home to “Wicked.”
The victims were riding an escalator at the Gershwin Theatre on West 51st Street shortly after 5 p.m. when the kid’s shoelace got stuck in the escalator and the machine malfunctioned, according to sources.
The escalator jolted, and the victims fell forward, causing various injuries to their legs and hands. All the injuries were said to be minor.
The Department of Buildings is investigating the incident.
