12 hospitalized after SI resident pepper sprays neighbor: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Twelve people were hospitalized — including four police officers — after a Staten Island resident shot pepper spray at his neighbor during a dispute, police said.

Police officers responding to a call reporting an unconscious baby at a home on Osgood Avenue, near Fairway Avenue, around 6 p.m. on Wednesday found several people complaining they were having trouble breathing and dealing with skin pain, the NYPD said.

The officers discovered a male resident had pepper-sprayed his female neighbor during a fight, the department said.

The neighbor, her boyfriend and six children were affected by the spray, police said. All eight were hospitalized in stable condition, according to police.

Four police officers who responded to the scene were also hospitalized in stable condition after they experienced difficulty breathing and redness to their skin, the NYPD said.

Police did not find an unconscious baby at the scene, the department noted.

No one had been arrested in connection with the incident as of Thursday, police said. An investigation is ongoing.
