NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — There were at least 16 people hurt, including three critically in an early Wednesday morning fire in Brooklyn.
Six firefighters were also among the injured victims.
The blaze broke out at about 6:30 a.m. in an apartment building located at 65 Bay 19th St. in Bath Beach.
According to fire officials, a family left their front door open when fleeing the fire in their apartment, allowing smoke to billow into the hallway and throughout the building.
Several people then became trapped in building stairwells as heavy smoke hindered their exit.
Two children were transported to Maimonides Medical Center and an adult was taken to Coney Island Hospital for treatment.
Fire officials are working to determine the cause of the fire.
