DANBURY, CT -- A teen girl was found shot in the Danbury Fair Mall Wednesday evening, police told several news outlets.

Connecticut State Police and Danbury police responded to reports of shots fired at the mall just after 7 p.m. The mall was immediately place on lockdown, police say.

Danbury police say that upon arriving at the scene, they found a 16-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to her chest. They say the victim was “alert and conscious” but her condition is unknown after being taken to a hospital.

Videos from the scene showed police rushing to the mall as shoppers fled to the parking lot.

Police say any suspects left the mall and are still at-large Wednesday night. They say the 16-year-old was not the intended target of the shooting, according to WTNH.

Police say they believe the shooting to be an isolated incident, but that is under investigation.

State police asked all to avoid the area.

Housatonic Area Regional Transit also reported at 7:45 p.m. that no service would be provided to the mall until further notice.
