NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Officials arrested two men after weapons and a controlled substance were recovered during a traffic stop on Staten Island over the weekend.
Hussein Tulyan, 33, and Jaber Alatwli, 42, were traveling in a 2014 Ford Fusion at about 7 p.m. on Sunday when they were pulled over by police in the vicinity of Bement and Castleton avenues in the West Brighton neighborhood, police said.
According to a criminal complaint, officials found Cathinone, a green, leafy stimulant derived from the khat plant, in a small plastic bag placed inside a cup holder in the front of the vehicle.
Cathinone was also recovered from a cup inside the left rear door, authorities said.
A 9 mm Daewoo handgun loaded with one round in the chamber and eight bullets was ecovered in the magazine, from the inside pocket behind the driver's seat, the complaint adds.
"Our Public Safety Team wasted no time after shots fired in West Brighton. They were able to safely take this illegal firearm off our streets," NYPD's 120th Precinct tweeted. "Great Job getting #OneLessGun off the street keeping the #NorthShore safe!"
There was also a switchblade knife taken from the driver's seat and a billy club was found on the floor in the rear of the car, according to the complaint.
Both suspects were charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
