NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Two court officers were slashed at the Manhattan criminal courthouse on Monday morning, police and New York State Courts confirmed amid the ongoing investigation.
Courts officers subdued the armed suspect after he attacked at least two court officers in the lobby of the south side of the courthouse, located at 100 Centre Street in Lower Manhattan. The attack broke out at about 9:45 a.m., officials said.
One court officer was slashed in the face, and another in the arm before other court officers jumped into action. They rushed the assailant, subdued him near a bank of magnetometers, disarmed him and took him into custody, state courts said.
The officers were taken to an area hospital and are expected to be OK, officials said.
"The assaults, captured on surveillance video, appeared preliminarily to be a targeted attack of the uniformed officers working security details at the courthouse," state courts said.
A criminal investigation is ongoing.
