MINEOLA, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Two officers were injured by an armed Queens man as they tried to arrest him during a domestic disturbance call on Long Island on Sunday evening, according to Nassau County Police.
Officers responded to a home on 2nd Street in Mineola at about 6:05 p.m. and discovered that 29-year-old Alexis Aleman, of Woodhaven, was involved in a verbal dispute with family members.
The situation escalated to the point that a female resident feared for her safety and called 911. Aleman fled on foot when police arrived, but was soon located nearby.
When officers tried to put him into custody Aleman pulled out a knife, police said. The responding cops used a Taser to subdue him, which allowed them to successfully apprehend him.
During the arrest one officer sustained an injury to his hand, shoulder and knees and the other was cut across his hand.
The cops and Aleman were transported to a local area hospital for evaluation and treatment, officials said.
Aleman is charged with second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, menacing a police officer and resisting arrest.
He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Monday and pleaded not guilty to all charges, court records show. Bail was set at $5,000 cash and $10,000 insured bond.
Aleman is expected back in court on Wednesday.
