NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Two students stabbed each other during a fight on Tuesday at a Hell's Kitchen school building, according to police.
The fight happened at around 1:20 PM at 439 West 49th St., which houses Business of Sports School, Urban Assembly Gateway School for Technology, and Stephen T. Mather Arts and Craftsmanship High School.
Police said that one male student was stabbed in the face and the other male student was stabbed in the chest.
Details about which school the fight took place in or why was not immediately clear.
Both victims were initially taken to a nearby hospital and are in stable condition, according to cops.
Following the incident, the two students were later taken into custody.
The ages and identities of the individuals involved have not been disclosed.
"The safety and wellbeing of our students is our top priority. Violence has absolutely no place in our schools, and this behavior is unacceptable," Deputy Press Secretary at NYC Department of Education Jenna Lyle said. "Our outstanding school staff and NYPD School Safety Agents immediately responded to an incident between students at the school, and the school was placed under a soft lockdown, which has now been lifted."
An investigation is ongoing.
