NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Two teenage boys were arrested in separate incidents on Tuesday after police recovered firearms from their backpacks inside schools in Brooklyn and the Bronx, authorities said.
A 15-year-old boy was taken into custody at approximately 2:07 p.m. at Eximius Preparatory Academy in the Morrisania section of the Bronx.
An NYPD warrants squad tracked down the student, leading to the recovery of a 9 mm Glock loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition from his backpack, officials said. The teen, whose name was withheld due to his age, was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
Earlier in the day in Brooklyn, a 17-year-old boy was arrested at approximately 11:15 a.m. after a firearm was discovered in his backpack at the Brooklyn High School for Law and Technology in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Charges against that teen were pending Tuesday.
No injuries were reported in either school incident, and investigations remain ongoing.
