2 teens dead in Cross Island Parkway moped crash

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Two teens are dead after an overnight moped crash on the Cross Island Parkway in Queens early Saturday, police said.

It happened just after 2 a.m. in the southbound lanes near the 150th Street overpass in Whitestone.

Officials found a 15-year-old boy and 19-year-old woman on the expressway with a damaged moped beside them.

The woman was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene, and the boy was transported to Flushing Hospital Medical Center in critical condition.

He later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, authorities said.

Police said it appears that the driver of the moped lost control and hit the wall. The moped had little damage, and police loaded it onto a flatbed tow truck and took it off the scene.

It was not immediately clear who was driving, or the relationship between the victims.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
