NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Two women were arrested for vandalizing the home of a Manhattan Councilmember because they were upset over his support of a drag queen story hour children’s event.
Erik Bottcher, who represents Chelsea, tweeted photos of graffiti on the sidewalk outside of his home calling the openly gay councilman a groomer and a pedophile.
Before vandalizing Bottcher’s home, protestors broke into a building on West 30th Street around 3 p.m. to graffiti the walls of Bottcher's office.
Two hours later, the protest group was outside of a building on West 24th Street where the councilmember lives and the two women entered the residence.
Cops arrested 44-year-old Erica Sanchez and 27-year-old Anna Morgan who were found inside of the building. They were each charged with criminal mischief.
"This is pure hate, unmasked,” Bottcher said in a tweet. “If they think this is going to intimidate us, they’re mistaken. Our resolve is strengthened.”
Mayor Eric Adams took to Twitter to condemn the vandalism.
"This is outrageous. Completely outrageous,” the tweet read. “Erik, you stand up for our city every single day and these cowardly bigots have no place here. Thank you to the NYPD for your quick work and sending the message that this hate will not go unchallenged."
On Saturday, protestors tried to shut down a public reading event for neurodiverse children at a New York Public Library branch in Chelsea featuring drag artists. LGBTQ supporters showed up to support the drag artists and formed a wall to block the fringe protestors.
