NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – New York City’s countdown to the new year has begun with the arrival of the 7-foot ‘2024’ numerals to Times Square on Wednesday morning that will be lit up when the clock strikes midnight on Jan. 1.

“People can come to Times Square, here at 46th and Broadway, until Friday morning at 11 o’clock and take a picture with 2024. They can look into the future right here in Times Square,” President of the Times Square Alliance Tom Harris told 1010 WINS/WCBS 880.

After this period of snapping selfies, the giant ‘2024’ will be raised in position above One Times Square on Friday where it will use its 588 energy efficient LED bulbs to illuminate the plaza (even more) come the new year.

“We need a party more than ever. We need these milestones in our lives. It’s a chance for us to look back and reflect, look forward with hope and celebrate today,” President of Countdown Entertainment Jeffrey Straus told 1010 WINS/WCBS 880 as New Year’s Eve celebrations approach.

The giant numbers arrived at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning after making a 2,800 mile trek from Los Angeles in a 2024 Kia EV9 in a coast-to-coast tour.

People across the U.S. were able to celebrate the coming of the new year with the numbers at Kia Forum in LA and holiday celebrations in Tucson and Philadelphia before they landed at their home in Times Square.
