NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Three young people were killed in a pair of shootings in East Harlem and Brooklyn late Sunday, police said.
A shooting in East Harlem killed a 25-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, while a shooting less than 20 minutes later in East Flatbush left a 17-year-old boy dead.
The deadly gunplay started just before 7:30 p.m. at East 128th Street and Lexington Avenue, where police responded to 911 calls of two people shot.
Harry Mendoza, 25, of Harlem, was shot in the head. Ashley Ballard, 18, of East Harlem, was shot in the head and back, police said.
They were both rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, where Ballard was pronounced dead on arrival. Mendoza later died of his injuries as well.
Minutes later in East Flatbush, gunfire broke out at 7:45 p.m. in the area of East 37th Street and Brooklyn Avenue.
Bryan Henriquez, 17, of Flatbush, was shot in the neck and body, police said.
He was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, where he was pronounced dead.
Police haven't said if they believe the victims were the intended targets.
No arrests have been reported in either shooting as the investigations continue.
