NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A mother and her boyfriend were arrested after three children were found malnourished and in deplorable living conditions inside a Brooklyn home, police said Wednesday.
Thomas Madera, 26, was charged with assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and unlawful imprisonment. Kiana Messier, 25, was charged with assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and reckless endangerment.
According to officials, the mother's cousin called police at about 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, after finding the children, a 3-year-old boy, a 6-year-old girl and a 10-month-old girl, inside the apartment on 271 Linden St. in Bushwick.
The boy’s wrist was tied to the bed with a piece of fabric, the NYPD said.
Messier lives in the Bronx but was staying with Madera in his apartment where the kids were found, police said. They were both cuffed at the location.
The children were transported to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center for treatment.
An investigation has been launched by the city’s Administration for Children’s Services, authorities confirmed.
