3 killed when driver hits pedestrians at food truck in Astoria

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Three people died after a driver crashed into a food truck in Astoria on Tuesday morning, police said.

At approximately 8:37 a.m., police responded to a vehicle collision at 19th Avenue and 42nd Street.

According to officials, an 84-year-old man was driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla traveling northbound on 42nd street when he struck two pedestrians who were standing outside a food truck.

The driver was attempting to make a U-turn when he collided with a Volvo sedan, authorities said.

The Volvo driver was not injured.

A 42-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene. A 70-year-old was pronounced dead at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst.

The driver of the Corolla was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.

The investigation remains ongoing.
