NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A Gucci store in the Meatpacking District was robbed at gunpoint on Monday, and police are searching for three suspects who committed the crime.
The robbery occurred around 12:08 p.m. at the Gucci store, located at 400 West 14th St.
Police are searching for two men and one woman who entered the store, displayed a gun and told everyone inside to get down.
The thieves took some luggage and other miscellaneous items. The total retail value was not immediately available.
The suspects made off west in a Honda CRV with New York plates.
There were no injuries reported in relation to this incident.
1010 WINS/WCBS 880 spoke with shoppers at the scene, like Sophie, who used to work in high end retail.
“Your first instinct is to defend, you know, stop it. But then again, it can get complicated. So you don’t know what’s going to happen," Sophie said.
Another shopper familiar with the retail space shared Sophie's concerns.
“I worked at Victoria’s Secret, we had people come in and steal stuff all the time and we couldn’t really do anything about it. It’s definitely crazy, I feel like it’s just a helpless feeling," she said.
Despite this brazen crime, similar crimes are down 38% from this time last year in the 6th Precinct neighborhood where the robbery occurred.
