NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A fire broke out at a rooftop penthouse in the West Village on Wednesday morning, sending smoke over the area but causing no injuries, the FDNY said.
The FDNY received a call shortly before 7 a.m. about a fire on the rooftop of 168 Bank St., a seven-story residential building near the Hudson River.
Citizen App video shows flames shooting from the roof as a cloud of smoke pours over Lower Manhattan at daybreak.

The fire rose to two alarms, requiring a response of more than 100 firefighters and EMS personnel.
"It appears the fire was contained to the roof deck and a penthouse that was on the roof," FDNY Deputy Chief Joseph Schiralli said. "It was a difficult fire for the units, because we had wind blowing off the Hudson going eastbound, and fire got into the next door building."
Schiralli said rooftop greenspaces offer "great use of what would normally be unused space" but that "often times we get fires on them."
Councilman Erik Bottcher initially said four people were injured, but the FDNY said there were no injuries. The American Red Cross was also at the scene and had registered seven displaced adults, Bottcher said.

The fire was brought under control shortly before 9 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
