43 cars seized by NYC sheriffs in Brooklyn for fake paper license plates

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Deputy sheriffs on Friday announced that 43 vehicles with fake paper license plates had been seized from multiple Brooklyn neighborhoods during an overnight operation.

The operation ran from midnight and ran through 6 a.m. in neighborhoods including Canarsie, Flatbush, and Mill Basin, authorities said.

NYC Sheriff Joseph Fucito said officials used license plate reader technology to identify some of the vehicles with counterfeit plates.

The sheriffs will begin to investigate who really owns the cars and will hold them accountable for any outstanding judgments for unpaid speed, camera, and parking violations summonses, Fucito added.
