NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Several people were fighting for their lives after a fire on the top floor of a Bronx apartment building injured 5 residents on Friday morning, the FDNY said.
The fire broke out around 6:15 a.m. on the sixth floor of a six-story building at 2309 Holland Ave. in the Allerton section. The cause isn't yet known.
The fire increased to two alarms by 6:30 a.m. and to three alarms by 6:40 a.m., according to fire officials. More than 30 FDNY units comprised of over 130 firefighters responded to the scene.


Video shows heavy smoke and fire pouring from a top-floor apartment, with firefighters just feet from the flames.
One person suffered critical injuries, while three more had serious injuries, including one person whose serious injuries were described as life-threatening. A fifth person suffered minor injuries.
The scene remained active at 9 a.m., though the heavy flames appeared extinguished.
