NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An overnight explosion blew through the lower levels of a Brooklyn home leaving six people injured and displacing dozens of nearby residents, according to the FDNY.

The explosion, which was caught on camera, happened on Wednesday just after midnight at a home on Vermont Street in the Cypress Hills section and collapsed the first floor of the residence into the cellar, authorities said.

According to fire officials, a resident next door said he smelled gas and called the landlord who said he was taking care of it.

Just after midnight, officials received a call from a residence on Vermont Street reporting the blast.

The explosion blew off the building's front door and sent other debris flying across the Street.

138 firefighters from 33 units arrived on the scene minutes later as flames engulfed the basement, first and second floor of the three-story building, authorities said.

According to the FDNY, firefighters searched the debris using thermal imaging cameras.

All the building's occupants have been accounted for, authorities said.

Six residents suffered minor injuries, officials said.

Two were transported to Brookdale University Hospital while the other four were treated at the scene.

About 54 residents of adjoining buildings were displaced and were receiving assistance from the American Red Cross and New York City Office of Emergency Management, the FDNY said.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
