NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A child was rushed to the hospital on Thursday evening after being shot in the leg in Brooklyn, police confirmed.
Authorities said that the 6-year-old was struck at 391 Bristol St. in Brownsville at around 6 p.m.
The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition, officials said.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear.
Police are searching for the suspect. There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
The shooting comes only hours after NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch held a press conference in the neighborhood to tout the department’s removal of over 1,000 guns from city streets thus far in 2026.
According to the commissioner, the 73 Precinct, which includes the Brownsville and Ocean Hill neighborhoods, has seen a 71% decrease in shootings year-to-date.
