NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – New York City reached a vaccination milestone on Thursday with 70% of adults receiving at least one vaccine dose.

"That's a really big deal," Mayor Bill de Blasio said at his daily briefing. "And that explains why we're able to keep moving forward with our recovery."

Overall, 4.9 million New Yorkers—or 58% of all city residents—have received at least one vaccine dose, the mayor said.

A total of 9,795,576 vaccine doses have been administered in the city since vaccinations began.

De Blasio said that as the school year approaches, there will be "a big push, a blitz" to get more New Yorkers 12 years and older vaccinated.

Statewide, 21,881,692 vaccine doses have been administered, according to Health Department data released Wednesday.

CDC data shows 74% of New York state adults have received at least one vaccine dose and 67.5% of adults have completed their vaccine series.
